Cinnabar is an ancient decorative method unique to China dating back thousands of years before Christ. The pigment is derived from the mineral cinnabar and incorporated in a lacquer which is applied over a thin wood base. Anywhere from 30 to 200 layers of lacquer are applied and then carved into intricate designs. 

This lovely Cinnabar vase stands 7.25" tall x 3.5" in diameter, and is rimmed in brass and has the classic cobalt blue interior.
