This fine collection of Manilla brass currency bracelets were used in West Africa, Nigeria in the 19th century and used up to the 1940s. The were made for trade with Europeans and were worn as status and wealth symbols. The Manillas vary in size, incised decoration, and shape. The sound they made when worn in a group was one of the determining factors of their value.
This collection features bracelets in the cuff style from 2.25" high to 3.5" high and from 2.25" to 3.5" in diameter. They are generally suited to very small hands.
