The Eight Chinese Immortals are a group of mythical characters rooted in Taoist Chinese culture. Each immortal has a power that can be used to give life or to destroy evil. They are known as the “Covert Eight Immortals” and they are said to have been born in the Song (960-1279ce), or Tang (581-907ce),Dynasties. Taoists highly regard the Immortals and they hold their place in popular Chinese culture to this day. There is some question as to their origin in reality or mythology, but they are said to live on a group of five islands in the Bohai Sea.
